Saguaro Surprise

Writer: J. F. RowanJ. F. Rowan

It was probably a month ago that Yvette and I figured out that we would add the Saguaro National Park to our “things to see” list. As it turned out, and we’ve seen this time and again, some of the best places we've seen, appear along the way at random, even if they were not part of the original plan. And really, isn’t that what this journey is all about?

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (ASDM) just happened to be about 2 miles from where we were camped. With the forecast calling for rain, and thinking this museum would be mostly an indoor type visit, we planned what we thought would be an otherwise damp afternoon of exploring, indoors. As it turned out, it didn’t rain that much and the museum is so much more than a bunch of indoor exhibits, it's real strength was seeing what they had to offer outside. Most of the museum is built around a matrix of trails similar to what one might expect at a very well crafted zoo.

From the moment we entered the museum we were bombarded with all kinds of great exhibits. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Thank god for a layer of glass!
